My Journey to Health

From Disc Surgery to Pilates Instructor

Back in 2004 whilst I was still living in Spain, I had a sudden onset of lower back pain. After a few months dealing with the pain I woke one morning, sneezed falling to the floor and I could not move, I had to be taken to Hospital where I had surgery to remove a disc. After surgery I spent 4 weeks in a hospital bed, finally I was then sent home with the directions of not moving for another 40 days to aid my recovery.

I have been blessed with a good, strong and flexible body, but after that episode I completely lost it and I spent the next six years in constant pain and discomfort. For many years I spent large amounts of time and money visiting all sorts of specialists hoping they would sort my pain out. After moving to Australia in 2008 I went to a renowned pain specialist in Melbourne, who told me that “The sooner you accept that you will live the rest of your life in pain, the better.” That was something that I could not accept so I decided to embark on an unpredictable and exiting journey into the body, movement and pilates.

I undertook my teacher training in 2009 at a teaching studio on the Sunshine Coast under the Internationally recognised Pilates School BASI. After completion in 2010 I became a certified pilates teacher and I finally, like magic, got rid of my chronic pain.

I have since then worked in several Studios around Australia, and since 2014 operated my home based Pilates Studio.I have never stopped learning and continuing to study, not only through experience and practice but also attending courses and workshops.I love what I do, I have fun when I am working and I feel rewarded every time we change postures, eliminate and alleviate pain and discomfort, remove limitations and enhance movement patterns.

Frequently Asked Questions

Am I too old for Pilates?

I work with clients of all ages - some well into their retirement years - and they get the most benefit as they strengthen their bodies to enjoy daily activities again.

Do I need equipment?

Pilates is known to use equipment stands, yet we can do a thorough assessment and gentle exercises suited specifically to you over a videocall or if you are in person, I have all of the equipment we will require.

Can I do it with a partner or friend?

You will both need to have an initial assessment completed alone so that I can get a thorough history, and then from then we can do a combined session with you both ongoing.
